Regulatory Focus, Mental Imagery Vividness, and Career Choice among Undergraduate Students in Abidjan

This study aims to identify the role of mental imagery vividness in the relationship between regulatory focus and career choice among undergraduate students. 205 students enrolled in communication and business administration at the University Institute of Abidjan, with an average age of 21, completed questionnaires on regulatory focus (Higgins et al., 2001), vividness of mental imagery (Jankowska & Karwowski, 2022), and career choice based on Tovi (2022). The results indicate that regulatory focus has a nearly significant influence on vividness of mental imagery (P=0.062). Vividness of mental imagery is not a mediating variable. These results, explained by regulatory and bio-informational congruence theories, suggest that these students are able to align their motivational orientation and vividness of imagery with changes in the economic environment.
